But once the closing ceremony is over, the press and broadcast complex will be transformed into one of a fashion college, technology hub, or research centre.

The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) has announced a shortlist of three organisations that are in the running to become the venue’s long term tenant.

UK Fashion Hub, Oxylane Group and iCITY will now hold detailed talks with the OPLC based on their initial bids. The successful tenant will be appointed this summer with the buildings available for fit out and opening from spring 2013.

Both buildings account for around 1million sq ft of commercial space.

OPLC chief executive Andrew Altman said: “The Olympic Park is already generating a huge amount of commercial interest and the calibre of our shortlist is testament to that.

“We will now go through their proposals in fine detail to make sure that they can deliver a successful ongoing legacy that will stimulate future commercial interest.”

UK Fashion Hub is proposing to unite the fashion and textile manufacturing sectors.

The broadcast centre would become a fashion centre with offices, while the press centre would become a fashion college and a media centre.

The Oxylane Group wants to turn the broadcast centre into an ‘Oxylane Village’ offering leisure, events and retail space, including a decathlon store.

Under iCITY’s proposals, the broadcast centre would include research labs, while the press centre would become an innovation and research centre with links to higher education that would showcase British technology.

London Mayor Boris Johnson added: “Having already secured operators for six out of eight of the Olympic Park venues, we are close to securing the huge 2012 legacy prize of long term jobs and growth.

“I am delighted that we are now talking to potential tenants at this point of London’s 2012 story.”
