About Caudwell Children
Ellie
9 years old, Romford
Ellie suffers from a complex variety of illnesses, including Cystic Fibrosis.
Her serious health needs means that she requires 24 hour care and her life experiences are severely restricted.
This high medical dependency means that Ellie and her family had never been able to travel away from home and away from Ellie's regular doctors.
As one of four children, Ellie's medical condition puts a strain on the normal family life and the stresses of constant care allow little respite for her parents.
Caudwell Children provided the family with a place on the Destination Dreams holiday to Disney World, Florida.
The carefully planned trip is specifically designed for children with a life threatening illness and high medical dependency, which often makes any travel impossible.
A team of charity staff, paramedics and doctors assist the families on the trip to ensure they have a respite from the stresses of constant care and an a magical opportunity to create happy family memories.
Romario
14 years old, Tottenham
Romario has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a degenerative disease which gradually reduces the muscle tone on his body leaving him unable to walk or stand.
Due to his condition Romario is a now full-time wheelchair user and requires specialist hoisting for all transfers to chairs and to his bed.
Caudwell Children provided a Molift Smart portable mobile hoist worth nearly £3000, which allows his carer to safely and comfortably transfer Romario on and off this stair lift, in and out of bed and for all his daily toileting, bathing and physiotherapy needs.
This donation has not only made it easier for Romario's to be transported, but has importantly given some of his dignity back.
To date Caudwell Children has donated over £10 million to thousands of children with 160 medical conditions. The Charity is committed to changing the lives of children by providing individual donations of specialist equipment, treatment and therapy as well as its annual 'Destination Dreams' holiday for families coping with a child's terminal illness.
Caudwell Children was registered in March 2000 and is widely recognised as one of the country's fastest growing children's charities. Since its inception the charity has doubled every pound raised, achieved through supplier partnerships, which means every pound donated works even harder.
The Charity was founded by entrepreneur, John Caudwell, whose vision was to create a sustainable children's charity that offered benefactors' transparency and piece of mind that 100% of their donation was being used to directly change children's lives.
By donating the cost of the Charity's annual management and administration overheads, John has guaranteed an efficient way for individuals and businesses to change the lives of thousands of sick and disabled children living in the UK.
John Caudwell remains the Charity's largest benefactor and sits as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
The Charity's ambassadors include Hollywood actress and author, Joan Collins, actress Elizabeth Hurley, Rod and Penny Stewart, Bruce Forsyth and singer, Robbie Williams.
