Cocktail-drinking credit card fraudster foiled by bar staff
A woman’s attempt to use a stolen credit card to buy drinks at a cocktail bar in the City was foiled after staff recognised the name on it as belonging to a man who had it stolen from him a month earlier, and was actually in the bar that night.
Officers are now trying to trace the alleged thief, who fled B@1 on Fenchurch Street after police were called on Friday, December 20.
A spokesman for City of London Police said she tried to open a bar tab using the card around 10.30pm, explaining: “Staff at the venue recognised the name on the bank card and realised that it actually belonged to someone else.
“The owner of the bank card, who was also at the bar that evening, confirmed the card had gone missing whilst he was in the bar in November 2013.”
He said staff called police but before officers arrived at the bar the woman and her friends had left. CCTV images have now been released to try and trace her.
The woman is described as white, with a slim build and long blonde hair aged in her early 20s. She was wearing black clothing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact City of London Police on 101.
