Album review: Zulu Winter - Language

Multi-layered indie bedecked with synths and highfalutin ideas proves a tad over-ambitious
This debut album takes a little time to warm to, leaning as it does away from hooks and catchy choruses towards repetitive, looping riffage and echo-laden layers of swirling guitar and synths.
Will Daunt’s nondescript, light-as-a-breeze vocal tops the package, which lyrically references classical literature including TS Eliot’s The Wasteland.
But none of that matters as you’ll be too busy navigating the myriad arrangements and intriguing depths of Let’s Move Back To Front and others.
Silver Tongue is a more demure slice of silky synths, feeling slightly limp after its meatier predecessors, but while plenty of time has been invested in the production, there isn’t enough overall finesse or feistiness to either end to draw you back for more.
