In a video bound to strike fear into the hearts of most parents, a golden eagle was filmed apparently trying and failing to capture a toddler.

The magnificent bird appears to swoop on the defenceless child in a park in Montreal, Canada, before dropping him to the ground.

The youngster is shown emerging from the incident unharmed.

The footage was later revealed to be a fake, put together by three students who used 3D animation.
