An explosive new exhibition based on a seminal biblical scene is set to rouse and delight in equal measure in Hackney.

Exhibitors say you will be moved by their project

Called “Ecce Homo (Behold the man)” – after the Latin words used by Pontius Pilate when he presented Jesus Christ to a hostile crowd before his crucifixion – the multidisciplinary art show explores the themes of responsibility and sacrifice in the present day.

The six artists, who call themselves Action and Power, will take over the Mother Project Space, Mother Studios, in White Post Lane, Hackney Wick, next month.

Artist Francisco Ortega, from Dalston, said: “We have drawn inspiration from the bible and have set it within the context of the current socio-economic crisis.

“Today, nobody is willing to take responsibility and everybody is asked to make sacrifices.

“The exhibition explores the impact of mankind and its responsibility for the ills of the world. The show is full of surprises; it won’t leave you unmoved!”

He added: “But be warned: the exhibition contains material that some people may find offensive!”

The opening night is Saturday November 3, from 6pm-10pm, and the exhibition is open Sunday November 4, Monday November 5, Thursday November 8, and Friday November 9, from 12pm-6pm. Or by appointment.
