Fifty Shades novels rack up huge UK sales

‘Mummy porn’ publishing sensation EL James has sold nearly one million paperback copies of her Fifty Shades trilogy in just one week.

The three titles racked up sold 978,197 sales at the tills – with demand staying strong.

Fifty Shades Of Grey, the first in the series, enjoyed its highest sales yet, at 482,785.

Meanwhile, follow-up title; Fifty Shades Darker, and the latest volume Fifty Shades Freed, shifted 264,984 and 229,171 copies respectively.

Sales over a longer 12 week period add up to 40p in every pound in every £1 spent on novels across the country, said industry magazine The Bookseller.

Fifty Shades of Grey was also the first book to sell more than one million copies for Kindle.
