The red carpet will be rolled out at the 70th Golden Globes awards ceremony tonight, and London is well represented among the nominees.

Daniel Day-Lewis, born in the capital, leads nominations as the bookie’s favourite to pick up the Best Actor prize for his performance in Lincoln as the U.S President.

Adele is in with a chance of claiming the trophy for Best Original Song for title track Skyfall for the newest James Bond film.

Homeland star Damian Lewis, born in St John’s Wood, is tipped to win Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama.

Ilford-born Maggie Smith, who is up for two awards, could snatch the Globe from three-times nominated Modern Family actor Sofia Vergara for her performance as the Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey.

But Dame Maggie is unlikely to win anything for her performance in Quartet, directed for Dustin Hoffman, as she is up against sure-to-win Jennifer Lawrence, of Silver Linings Playbook, in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical category.

Downton Abbey leading lady Michelle Dockery, from Chadwell Heath, could get the gong for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama but she is up against stiff competition from Clare Danes for Homeland.

Other London stars, of small and silver screen, who are nominated are Rachel Weisz, who grew up in Hampstead, Roehampton-born Emily Blunt, Sienna Miller, who was raised in the capital, Londoner Benedict Cumberbatch, Hammersmith-born Toby Jones and former Edgware resident Archie Panjabi.

The Hour and season two of Downton Abbey are also nominated, for best mini-series and TV series respectively.
