Music goes on until the early hours

London24 is absolutely delighted to report that last year’s brilliant Standon Calling festival was not a fluky one-off.

The organisers have managed to capture the wants of the seasoned festival-goer - unbridled fun at a fair price with top music and a juiced atmosphere.

This year’s matched 2011 in both up and coming acts and established artists.

It was a travesty that the sound busted during a superb Sunday-perfect set by Dub Pistols, who had managed to rouse the lethargic third-day Sunday crowd to their feet.

Other highlights were beatbox king Beardyman, Casiokids and Death in Vegas who garnered the largest crowd of the weekend.

Just 30 miles from London in Hertfordshire, Standon’s small site means it’s only a little jaunt from the drop-off area to the camping area and that you see the same, friendly faces over the weekend.

In fact all the toils and troubles of big festivals were gone- the standard (clean) toilets were portable cabins with mirrors and locks and bog roll; queues for the bar were short and you could take your own allowance of booze anywhere around the event.

But Standon is not just about the music. It’s about the tree-houses, the other-wordly nooks and crannies, the decorations, the general playful randomness and the sunshine, happy vibes.

The music starts early and goes on late, well after day-break. A psychedelic spider den bedecked with UV webs and a mind boggling oracle machine was plenty of entertainment for the after-hours crowd.

God speed next year’s festival and praise to Mother Nature for the clay soil which dries so quickly that you can hardly believe the torrent you just witnessed could possibly have been real.
