The attraction has gathered a collection of works which are said to be the first survey of “light-based art” in the UK, including some pieces which have not been seen for decades.

Light Show, which includes 25 pieces dating from the 1960s to the present day, opens to the public on Wednesday.

Among them will be an installation by Olafur Eliasson which features 27 fountains illuminated by strobe lights - never before seen in the UK.

Another by Leo Villareal, is made up of 19,600 computer-controlled LEDs built into a tower.
