Praising Britains creative scene The Hoff said: Its great to be here at the Urban Music Awards. Britain has got so much talent and tonight certainly proved it.

Wretch 32 was nominated for a record six awards at the 9th annual awards ceremony, held in Bayswaters Porchester Hall, and walked off with Best HipHop Act, Best single, Best Music Video and Artist of the Year. Speaking afterwards he said: Its amazing. Last year I was saying I wish I could perform and win an award at the UMAs and this year I am up on stage collecting four awards. This is one of my highlights of 2011.

Other celebs who turned up included former Atomic Kitten turned West End star Natasha Hamilton, Caprice, Imogen Thomas, Levi Roots and cast members of The Only Way is Essex and Made in Chelsea.

We spoke most people as they came in and, without exception, they were all really positive about hearing new music. Singer Natasha Hamilton said: Im looking forward to seeing everyone, especially new talent. I saw Maverick Sabre recently who blew me away. She has just finished recording an album, which she hopes will be released as soon as possible, has been working with Beyonce and the Black Eyed Peas and has just finished in the West End in Blood Brothers. The 27-year-old mother-of-three is clearly a busy woman. She said: Literally been in the house with three kids, cooking the tea, getting the homework done, glam up.

The uber-chilled Levi Roots, 53, who seems to have a smile permanently etched on his face, said, when we asked how he was: Everythings fantastic. It always is, man. And the good times are continuing to roll with his business: Were in the soft drinks market which is fantastic. Weve got a TV advert coming out soon as well. It is being done by the Aardman company. Youll all be glad to hear it stars the man himself. Levi, too, espoused the importance of the music scene as whole rather than focus on specific artists: In general I think its fantastic for British music. Its important to promote British music.

Caprice, however, and entirely understandably, was more interested in a fellow guest. I just heard David Hasselhoff is here! Do you know whats so extraordinary about him, though, hes so popular in Europe, said the 39-year-old supermodel.

Imogen Thomas, 28, is keeping busy with a new project. Im shooting a film. It starts shooting in two weeks time. However, she was playing her cards close to her chest and wouldnt tell us what it was about.

Last but not least were The Only Way is Essex cast members Lucy Mecklenburgh, 20, and new flame Mario, who were both well up for the bash. We asked whether the success of Towie and subsequently appearing in print regularly was difficult for her. She said: Not really, obviously Ive got to be a bit careful and cant go out the house without make-up on! But if Ive got a day off Im at home in my pyjamas watching a DVD. Im not like high maintenance.

With the schmoozing over it was time for the main event. The standout act for me was Will and the People, an emerging band who seamlessly fused all of their influences (ska, reggae no doubt about those, but I would also suggest The Kinks, Blur and Paolo Nutini) into a great sound. I would not be surprised at all if 2012 is their year. And I was not the only one. Heres what The Hoff had to say: I particularly love the band Will and the People who definitely were my best act on the night. If that aint high praise then I dont know what is.

There were performances by HipHop artist Mann ft. 50 cent, who performed the hit single Buzzin, Warner Musics latest signing Clement Marfo and The Frontline, who covered Dr. Dres I need a Doctor and then performed their latest single Overtime, featuring rapper Ghetts. Starboy Nathan, Sony Musics Bluey Robinson, US R&B superstar Jeremih and BMW award-winning comedian Jimmy James Jones. The event was hosted by actor and presenter Tom Pullen.

And long-time Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood was given a lifetime achievement awards. He said: The Urban Music Awards has been the backbone for British urban music in this country and Europe so to receive such an award I am truly touched as this is my first ever UMA and is the biggest ever award for what I do. To know that music fans out there have shown this much love is truly touching. Thanks to the UMAs.
