An Olympic gold medallist will be taking to the stage to star in West End musical Chicago.

Robin Cousins, who won gold in the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, New York, will play lawyer Billy Flynn from July 17, 10 days before the Games start, to September 8, the day before the Paralympics finish.

Cousins, who has been head judge on ITV’s Dancing on Ice for the past six years, said: “Joining the cast of Chicago as Billy Flynn will be an amazing experience and is a dream role for many actors.

“Doing the show at a time when the world’s best athletes are here for the greatest sporting event on earth will make it even more thrilling.”

Cousins won BBC Sports Personality of the Year the year he triumped at the Winter Olympics, and had a successful career as a professional skater.

He retired in 2000 because of injury and became a full-time choreographer.

Chicago is at the Garrick Theatre, Charing Cross Road, London. Tickets cost from £26. For more information visit www.chicagothemusical.co.uk or call the box office on 0844 482 9673.
