Rising Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence was the golden girl at the premiere of The Hunger Games in London.

The Oscar-nominated Winter’s Bone actress, 22, braved the bitter cold in a gold Ralph Lauren gown and Roger Vivier heels at the Cineworld O2.

She was joined by co-star Elizabeth Banks, who wore a sequinned yellow Bill Blass dress and Jimmy Choo shoes, as well as leading men Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth in smart suits.

Hundreds of fans had waited hours to catch a glimpse of the cast for Gary Ross’s highly anticipated big-screen adaptation of the first of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novels.

Lawrence - who portrays protagonist Katniss Everdeen - admitted to having initial hesitations about the role before her mother persuaded her to take it.

“This film has one of the most powerful messages we can see in this generation and I was just happy to be a part of it,” she said.

Banks, who plays Effie Trinket, admitted to being overwhelmed by the British fans, saying: “It’s pretty wild! There’s a lot of people here - it looks like we have landed on the moon or something.”

The Hunger Games sees 24 teenage “tributes” having to battle it out in a televised fight until only one survivor remains.

“At the heart of this is a strong courageous girl. I think that’s good,” said Hemsworth, who plays Katniss’ friend Gale Hawthorne.

The Hunger Games, also starring Lenny Kravitz, Woody Harrelson and Toby Jones, opens in cinemas on Friday March 23.
