Madonna will be in London tonight, walking the red carpet at the premiere of her royal romance W.E.

The film, which tells the story of the love affair between Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII, stars Andrea Riseborough and James D’Arcy in the lead roles.

The two actors will join Madonna for the premiere in Kensington.

The film adopts a two-tier approach, contrasting the royal romance which ultimately led to Edward’s abdication with the tangled love-life of a modern woman, played by Abbie Cornish, who is obsessed with Mrs Simpson.

The film was greeted with a volley of critical abuse after an early screening at last year’s Venice film festival.
