Strictly Come Dancing judge Darcey Bussell opened a new dance studio for youngsters in Shepherds Bush.

The former principal dancer at The Royal Ballet was joined by fellow judge Craig Revel Horwood and founder of the Pineapple Dance Studio, Debbie Moore, to mark the refurbishment of The Village Hall on Tuesday evening.

The event was organised by the charity Friends of West London Dance.

The new hall will enable children aged between three and 16 to practise their dance skills and experience what it is like to perform in a theatre.

Darcey Bussell said: “I feel very proud to be opening this magnificent studio.

“The work of the charity and the West London School of Dance has been pivotal to the growth and development of so many young dancers’ lives for more than 20 years”.

The hall was purchased in March by the Wigoder Family Foundation from Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

Funding for the revamp has come from benefactors including The Linbury Trust, The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, The Garfield Weston Foundation, the Cameron Mackintosh Foundation.

Director of the West London School of Dance, Anna du Boisson, said: ‘We are tremendously grateful to all those who have supported this fantastic initiative.

“It is a very special day for everyone involved at the Charity and the talented young children attending the School. This amazing new facility will enable us to continue and to expand our work to nurture future young talent.’

Cllr Nicholas Botterill, Leader of Hammersmith & Fulham Council, said: “Whether it is an Argentine Tango or an American Smooth, we hope the new and improved dance studio might just nurture some of the future stars of Strictly Come Dancing.”
