Comic and actor David Walliams has revealed he has tried to kill himself multiple times during his life-long battle with depression.
The Little Britain star, who is from London, said he made the first attempt when he was 12. Writing in his autobiography, Camp David, he revealed he tried to hang himself the first time after he was bullied during a Sea Scouts camp.
He took an overdose when he was 19 and tried to hang himself again in 2003.
In a diary entry at the time, he wrote: “Just tried to hang myself. But I knew I didn’t really want to die, I just didn’t want to live. I took my weight with my feet and sat down.
“Earlier I had come close to stepping in front of a train. I am in total despair.”
In the same year Walliams cut his throat and wrists with a kitchen knife.
His book also reveals he spent time in The Priory being treated for depression.
Camp David is released on October 11.
