London raised footballer David Beckham is set to be the first ever solo male cover star on women’s magazine, Elle.
Elle has revealed its July issue will feature the former Manchester United, England, Real Madrid and LA Galazy midfielder on its front.
The cover shoot is booked to take place this evening in Los Angeles, where Becks plays football for the LA Galaxy.
There will also be a nod to the up-coming Olympic Games in London.
Beckham said “honoured to have been asked to be the first ever solo male fashion cover”.
Lorraine Candy, editor-in-chief at Elle, said: “David Beckham is a national hero, so we saw an opportunity to shoot a celebratory cover to support an historical and patriotic year.”
No man has appeared on his own of the cover of Elle before. Singers Paul Weller and Liam Gallagher came closest when they featured with model Kate Moss and Nicole Appleton.
