‘Exciting’ Easter-themed cakes showcased at Barts Pathology Museum

The expert bakers are at it again at the Barts Pathology Museum.

Culinary creations inspired by Easter will be on show at West Smithfield as part of Sacred Tarts, a one day cake show.

Treats include Cake Pope cake pops, a rising Christ cake, cupcake saints, stigmata cookies, and a Miracle Messiah cocktail bar.

The chefs will treat the festival's religious aspect with respect but say they are also keen to explore the darker side of religious art and symbolism.

The museum's assistant technical curator Carla Connolly is a Catholic former mortician and an ex-convent resident.

She said: 'Easter eggs are always well received, but are pretty boring when you know you're going to get them every year.

'The Sacred Tarts team will be busy over the next few weeks coming up with some exciting alternatives, from crystal sugar crowns of thorns to cake Popes, butterscotch crucifixes to edible saints.'

It comes after the museum, leased by Queen Mary, University of London, hosted Eat Your Heart Out last year, showcasing anatomical cakes.

Sacred Tarts will run from 11am until 7pm on March 30. Entry is free.
