Notting Hill Carnival after parties
After a tough day of eating, drinking and vigorous wriggling (or ‘dancing’ as many insist on calling it), the search will be on to continue the merry making long into the evening. Thankfully (unless you’re one of the local residents), help is at hand to keep the fun going well into the night, courtesy of the genial folk at supperclub.
DJ stars from around the world have been summoned to keep the party in full swing, with the likes of Mexican duo Carl Waxberg and Sebastian MDH, Climbers and Sancho Panza deploying their mysterious, god-like disc spinning skills to devastating effect.
Spread over three consecutive nights, carnival goers are advised to pack a bag of stamina. Not suitable for those over 90.
August 24, 25, and 26, 11pm-4am. supperclub, 12 Acklam Road, North Kensington, W10 5QZ. £10-£15.
Highgate Jazz with Soul Festival
Towards the other end of the Hectic Scale (and guaranteed not to alarm those over 90) is the Highgate Jazz with Soul Festival.
An annual highlight of the north London calendar, this celebration of musical skill and prowess (and certainly not just ‘showing off’) sees performers both old and new entrancing audiences across four main venues. With the mix of talent inevitably described as ‘eclectic’, there really is something for everyone.
Festival director Brandon Allen boasts that you’ll be able to catch everything from gypsy jazz, funk, blues and world music to mainstream, straight ahead and bebop. Star turns include saxophonist Alan Barnes, Trio Manouche and Ian Shaw.
August 23 to 26. Day passes £30. Festival Passes £80.
