The director’s Western revenge tale Django Unchained had its London premiere in Leicester Square last night.

The film is up for five Oscars including Best Picture, Original Screenplay and Actor in a Supporting Role for actor Christoph Waltz.

It has also been nominated for Baftas for categories including Best Director and Original Screenplay for Tarantino.

At yesterday’s premiere the 49-year-old said: “It’s been a good week. Five Oscar nominations today, five Bafta nominations yesterday.”

Tarantino admitted being disappointed that he did not receive a nomination for Best Director from the Oscars but said he is in good company.

“That would have been pretty nice,” he said.

“But I actually feel bad that Ben Affleck didn’t get nominated. I think he really deserved it too.”

He added: “I don’t think I will win Best Picture. But if it did, I will take it for sure.”

The director of films including Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs was joined at the premiere by stars Waltz, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L Jackson and Kerry Washington.

Oscar-winner Foxx, looking stylish in a purple suit by Ozwald Boateng, said the nominations are “fantastic”.

He said: “Hats off to Christoph Waltz and all our geniuses.”

Washington, who braved the cold in a white gown by Giles Deacon, said: “It’s very exciting. The film is such a collaborative effort so it would be a win for everyone.”
