Actor Hugh Grant has backed gay marriage in a video, but admitted he is not one for tying the knot.
The Four Weddings and a Funeral star, whose previous girlfriends include Elizabeth Hurley and Jemima Khan, filmed the clip for the Out4Marriage campaign.
Grant, who became a father last year, says in the video: “I’m not a massive believer in marriage, I think my own biography is testament to that but I do think that love is the same for everyone and I do think that everyone should have the same rights.
“If you want to get married, whether you’re gay, straight, transgender, whatever, you should definitely be allowed to do that. So I’m Out4Marriage, are you?”
The Out4Marriage campaign supports changing the law to allow gay couples to marry and says on its website that it “has launched to help spread the message that most people in Britain and indeed the Western world, are happy to ‘come Out4Marriage’”.
It is modeled on the It Gets Better YouTube project launched by the US agony uncle Dan Savage, where politicians, celebrities and members of the public gave hope to teenagers coming to terms with their sexuality.
Entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson and pop stars The Saturdays and Paloma Faith have previously filmed messages for the Out4Marriage campaign.
