Several Olympians from Team GB including, Mo Farah, are being recruited as mentors.

But not Wiggo - owner of the world’s most famous sideburns.

The Tour de France champion stamped out talk linking him with Simon Cowell’s pop juggernaut.

He said: “Let’s not talk about the ‘X Factor’. Compared to the Olympics everywhere you went the country was on a high, and as athletes it was phenomenal to see that.

“Then you see the ‘X Factor’ and it’s like, ‘Oh God, everyone’s got to put up with that all winter now.’ “

But not every Team GB Olympian feels the same.

Heptathlon gold medallist Jessica Ennis is desperate for a role.

Speaking on ITV1’s ‘Lorraine’ she said: “I think it’s a great idea. I’m a massive fan of ‘X Factor’.

“Before the Olympics I was just training so hard and making sure that I didn’t miss anything, so I had to turn a lot of things down and say no to things that I would love to have done at the time.

“Now that I’ve got this medal I can just relax and enjoy myself a bit.”
