The acclaimed Romanian 12-piece is known for its wild performances and will be familiar to some after soundtracking recent TV campaigns by the likes of Guinness and IKEA.

The group comes to the Scala in Pentonville Road, King’s Cross, on Sunday with a show that promises to channel the raucous spirit of an authentic Gypsy party.

Expect a brash Balkan sound that fuses lightning-fast melodies, thunderous drums and unbridled brass.

Having previously performed sell-out gigs at the Barbican and Roundhouse, this is Fanfare Ciocarlia’s first headline slot in the UK since 2008 and will be followed by a special Gypsy set from XFM DJ John Kennedy.

The band hails from a small village in northeastern Romania, Zece Prajini, and was formed in 1996 with the help of German record producer Henry Ernst, before going on to perform countless gigs around the globe.

At the Scala in Pentonville Road, King’s Cross, on Sunday, from 7pm.

* Tickets £20 from TicketWeb at www.ticketweb.co.uk or on 08444 771 000. Call the venue on 020 7833 2022.
