Michelle Magorian’s novel, brought to national attention by the ITV show starring John Thaw will be brought to life at the Phoenix Theatre, starting with a preview on November 22.

Set during the build-up to the Second World War, Goodnight Mister Tom charts the tale of William Beech, who is evacuated to the idyllic English countryside and builds a remarkable and moving friendship with the elderly recluse Tom Oakley (a role played by Oliver Ford Davies).

All seems perfect until William is summoned by his mother back to London.

The production will be adapted for stage by David Wood and directed by Angus Jackson, an associate director at Chichester Festival Theatre. His production of The Browning Version recently won critical acclaim in its double bill with South Downs in the West End.

Performance times are from November 26 to January 22.
