The character, last seen nearly a decade ago in a 2003 Christmas special will return as a wannabe music mogul in the one off edition, attempting to break urban act Dom Johnson, in The Office Revisited.

Gervais famously tried to have his own pop career with Seona Dancing in the early 1980s and had a brief stint as a real-life music manager when he was involved with Suede in their early days.

In the new episode, Brent is seen selling cleaning products to finance his music business dreams.

Gervais said: “I thought it was time to revisit my most famous comedy creation to find out what he’s been up to for the last decade and most importantly what he’s up to now.

“He is passing on his wisdom to younger would-be rock stars now and is living vicariously through a young performer, Dom Johnson. Well, really he is trying to worm his way back into rock and roll.”

The Office Revisited, made as part of BBC Comic Relief, will be shown on March 15.
