London singing teacher Jaz Ellington, who made Will.i.am and Jessie J cry in his audition, has been made favourite to win BBC1’s The Voice talent show.

He is one of nine artists from the capital to make it into the final 20 acts for the live TV stages of the competition.

Jaz leads the pack with bookmaker William Hill, putting him at 5-1 to take victory.

Over the weekend the coaches - Jessie J, Danny O'Donoghue, Sir Tom Jones and Will.i.am - had to choose half of their teams to go forward, and the rest were axed from the show.

Another Londoner, Joelle Moses, is the next most-fancied singer to win the contest.

Those who have made it through include Amy Winehouse's pal Tyler James.

On Saturday viewers begin to have their say as the public vote begins, whittling away one member from each of the coaches' teams of five.

These are the London hopefuls who have made it this far:

Team Jessie:

Cassius Henry, 32 - Cassius had his first bite of the cherry for a music career when he was just 16, but the loss of his brother led to his record deal slipping through his fingers. He attracted the attentions of both Jessie and Danny during the auditions when he sang Neyos Closer.

Ruth Ann St Luce, 18 - Ruth Ann, who works for retailer River Island, has been a keen singer for a decade and wrote her first song when she was just 13. She wowed the judges with Snow Patrols Run in her audition.

Vince Kidd, 22 - Vince has written songs for record labels and was a contestant on The X Factor in 2007 with boyband Futureproof under his real name Matthew Protheroe. His huge vocal range led Jessie to think he was a girl when he performed Madonnas Like A Virgin in the blind auditions.

Team Will:

Jaz Ellington, 27 - Jaz almost missed the audition after being treated in hospital for an asthma attack. He started singing in church and runs gospel workshops. His audition moved Will and Jessie to tears when he was invited to sing Ordinary People.

Joelle Moses, 21 - Joelle, who has flirted with the music industry before by recording demo vocals for the likes of Rihanna, Gabriella Cilmi and Toni Braxton. She united the judges who all wanted her on their team following her blind audition with Adeles Rolling in the Deep.

Tyler James, 30 - Tyler was a friend of Amy Winehouse and had his own record deal in 2001. He said Winehouses death was his wake-up call to get back into music. He performed Otis Reddings Sitting on the Dock of the Bay at the blind auditions.

Team Tom:

Ruth Brown, 20 - Ruth, who sings in a choir promised her music-loving father she would audition for the show before he died last year. She relaxes by writing songs and has for the Prime Minister. Her audition tune was David Guettas When Love Takes Over.

Sam Buttery, 20 - Sam once failed to get a part in a school play because was not thought to be strong enough. The student is known as Samarotti by his family for his performances of operatic tunes which he has enjoyed since he was four. He tackled Adeles Set Fire To The Rain at audition.

Team Danny:

Max Milner, 21 - Max and his girlfriend were left temporarily unable to work after a nasty motorbike accident last year. Both his parents are actors and he has starred in a UK tour of musical Footloose. His audition piece was a mash-up of Eminems Lose Yourself and The Beatles Come Together.
