Best Recycling Project
This award is open to any group, organisation, company, community team or association that addresses environmental issues through its actions: let us know of any projects you have undertaken that address the issues of recycling.
- Outline the project strategy and what targets you aim to achieve
- How does the project help the environment
- The project must help limit waste
- Must show good use of recycling or recyclable materials
- Does the project conserve and improve the surrounding habitat
Young Environmentalist of the Year
This award is open to anyone under the age of 18, living or working within the awards area (please see list of boroughs and communities), who have made a significant contribution to the local environment.
- This may include specific involvement within an environmentally friendly school project
- Working within the community on a project
- This could include waste recycling or community clean ups
- You may have taken part in energy saving initiatives or green strategies
- You may be generating awareness about climate change or other green issues
Best Environmental School (primary)
This award is open to primary schools within the awards area who will be assessed on what they do to protect the environment and on the quality of environmental education they provide to pupils.
- What has your school been doing to protect the environment?
- Show how your school has improved awareness of environmental issues.
- Tell us about any environmental policies currently in place and long-term plans to develop these.
- What practices are currently in force within your school to protect the environment?
Best Environmental School (secondary)
This award is open to secondary schools within the awards area (please see list of boroughs and communities) who will be assessed on what they do to protect the environment and on the quality of environmental education they provide to pupils.

- Show how your school has improved awareness of environmental issues.

Best Environmental University/College
This award is open to Universities and Colleges within the awards area (please see list of boroughs and communities) who will be assessed on what they do to protect the environment and on the quality of environmental education they provide to students?

- Show how your University/College has improved awareness of environmental issues.
- Does the University/College run a courses or clubs on the environment?
- Tell us about any environmental policies currently in place and long-term plans to develop these.

Environmental Business of the Year
Companies are eligible for this award if their premises or staff are based in the awards area (please see list of boroughs and communities.)
- They will be judged on what they do to limit the negative environmental impact of their business.
- Steps they have taken to improve the local environment
- How do you encourage employees or customers to act in an eco-friendly manner
- Long term strategies that are in place to minimise the impact on the environment.
- Is the supply of manufactured products sourced locally
- Do you purchase products from environmentally friendly companies
- Does the company minimise waste and use energy efficient appliances/machines
- Are deliveries reduced to cut down on emissions
Most Environmental Household
This award is open to any household within the awards area that can demonstrate both individually and collectively, ways in which to protect the local environment. This can include activities inside and outside the home.
- Please advise on any activities that have minimum impact on the environment such as recycling clothes
- Recycling of any waste or reuse of any products within the home
- Avoiding unnecessary packing or energy consuming devices
- Switching all old appliances and light bulbs to the new more efficient long lasting appliances/ light bulbs
- Using public transport when out shopping or going to work
- Composting
- Growing your own fruit or vegetables
Best Organic Restaurant/Producer
This award is open to any organic restaurant or producer in the awards area. (Please see list of boroughs/areas) Entrants should be able to demonstrate some, or all, of the following environmental policies in their business
- Is the food sourced form organisations with environmental principals eg Fair- Trade, or is it organically produced locally
- Is the produce obtained from sustainable sources?
- Does the restaurant's day-to-day operations revolve around being green? i.e. does it recycle or re-use its products?
- Is your waste easy to compost or biodegradable?
- Is there any other element of the business that is environmental friendly? i.e. - how is produce delivered
- Are the restaurant's utilities run from a renewable source
Best Environmental Project/initiative
The award is open to any organisation or group who can demonstrate a contribution they have made to the local environment. This maybe on a small scale via membership of an eco-friendly organisation or on a larger scale through involvement with a local community project.
- The project should take into account any recycling of waste produced or reusing materials
- Outline the project strategy and any targets you set out to achieve and whether you achieved them?
- What obstacles did you encounter and were you able to overcome them?
- What green attitude did you adopt when you started this project i.e. did you travel using public transport, did you encourage people to get involved?
Environmentalist of the Year
This award is open to anyone over the age of 18, living or working within the awards area (please see list of boroughs and communities), who have made an outstanding contribution to the local environment.
- Please demonstrate your commitment to the environment. It may include involvement through a community project
- You may have been championing environmental issues to a larger scale audience.
- This could include waste recycling or community clean ups
- You may have taken part in energy saving initiatives or green strategies
- You may be generating awareness about climate change or other green issues
