Opening day includes around 15 shows, from designers including Dublin’s Orla Kiely; Felder Felder, the brand of sisters Annette and Daniela Felder; and PPQ, who describe their ideal client as “Sophia Lauren in a rush with Peter Sellers in tow”.

Students from Central Saint Martins will close the first day of LFW. The college’s MA fashion course is internationally acclaimed and has produced designers including Alexander McQueen.

It is the only student design course which exhibits at LFW.

Other LFW events today include the Fash/on Film launch. Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion council, Farida Kaikobad, brand director of River Island, and the panel of Fash/On Film will host a champagne reception to launch the British Fashion Council’s new fashion film initiative before a screening of curated films.
