McQ is the diffusion brand by fashion house Alexander McQueen and makes its LFW debut today. Already famous, the house hit new heights last year when the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton picked Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton to design her wedding dress.

Today opens with a show by Peter Pilotto, the brand of designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos.

The Peter Pilotto woman is described as “beyond pure classification of age or style, just like the clothes themselves”.

Also showing today is Giles, the brand of designer Giles Deacon, who described his autumn/winter 2012 inspirations: “The National Gallery and The National Portrait Gallery are great sources of inspiration, especially their ‘First Actresses: Gender, Representation and Performance’ exhibition which has been a great source of inspiration for autumn/winter 2012, also the Edward Burra show at Pallant House in Chichester and Sandra at The Golden Heart, Shoreditch.”

Erdem designer Erdem Moralioglu, who shows at 2pm, says he goes to his studio in Shordeditch for inspiration. He described the ideal Erdem woman as “a clever person who probably cares little about seasons”.

Fashion East, a non-profit organisation set up in 2000, shows today. Each season Fashion East gives young designers a bursary, catwalk show-production, PR support and expert advice to help them launch their labels.

This year’s Fashion East designers are James Long, Maarten van der Horst and Marques’Almeida. The show is at 5pm.

Other shows today include Mark Fast and Christopher Kane.
