One of the Duchess of Cambridge’s favourite labels, Issa, showed on the second day of London Fashion Week.
Celebrities including Kelly Osbourne, Pixie Geldof, Alexa Chung and Gemma Arterton took in shows on Saturday, while American Vogue editor Anna Wintour officially opened the new Rag and Bone store in Sloane Square.
The House of Holland show, on the third floor of an NCP car park in Soho, was attended by Osbourne, Geldof and Chung, who sat next to each other on the front row.
The theme of the show’s spring/summer 2013 collection was described as “grunge, glamour and glory,” which was re-visiting “fashion’s forgotten decade” the 90s.
Models wore dresses, skirts and tops with large check patterns in red, yellow and green and pink metallic dresses, pencil skirts and tiny shorts.
Multi-coloured tie-dyed dungarees, jackets and dresses also featured in the show, which had classic ‘90s songs blasting out.
Designer Henry Holland said about the ‘90s influence on the designs: “It’s very much the first decade of fashion that I experienced first hand. I have quite a fondness for it.
“I love London. This is our 12th show (here), it’s the best in my opinion. I just think London’s the most amazing city and it’s a very inspiring place to live, it’s very much integral to what we do.”
Osbourne, who was wearing a red House of Holland dress and sunglasses, said after the show: “It was amazing, I’ve got a wish list. I loved the shoes, the patterns, the textiles - he just gets better and better every year.”
Chung added: “I loved it, I thought it was really good. I think he’s really growing up as well and his designs are evolving and it looked really elegant as well as being fun.
“I think that sense of humour is something that other fashion weeks aren’t as good as, fashion is meant to be fun.
“I think London Fashion Week’s massively important, it’s definitely a place that the rest of the world looks to for new innovative, creative talent. London is really the place that you go when you want to see what’s up and coming.”
Actress Gemma Arterton, who was in the Bond film Quantum of Solace, was a guest at the Holly Fulton show, while Christine Bleakley took in the designs on the catwalk at the Jasper Conran show.
American Vogue editor Wintour officially opened the new Rag and Bone store by ceremoniously smashing a bottle of champagne against the wall by the door.
Issa, one of the Duchess of Cambridge’s favourite designers, also appeared on Saturday with a catwalk show at main venue Somerset House. Kelly Brook and Jodie Kidd were among those in the front row of the show.
The Duchess chose to be photographed in a royal blue Issa dress for her official engagement photo in 2010, and has also worn the Brazilian designer on many other occasions.
Her sister Pippa Middleton is also a fan and wore a red version of the engagement dress to a friend’s wedding earlier this year, while she was in the front row of the label’s catwalk show last September.
Today sees one of the biggest days of the event, with much anticipated shows from Vivienne Westwood with her Red Label, Mary Katrantzou, Jonathan Saunders, Acne, Topshop and further royal favourite Temperley London.
