We frequently grumble about it but London does have a fantastic transport network.
In the past navigating it may have been difficult sometimes but smartphones and mobile devices have made it much easier to get around.
Here is our pick of the top five transport
by taxi

No more running along the street, desperately waving your arms around. Now you can use Hailo, the new, quick and easy way to get picked up by one of London’s 23,000 black cabs. It takes two taps to hail a taxi using this free app, and you can then pay for your journey by card or cash at the meter rate. Available on Android and iPhone.

Next Bus London by Jeevan Takhar
Costing just half of a single journey by bus, this app puts live times for 20,000 stops and more than 1,400 routes in the palm of your hand so you know exactly how many minutes you have to wait until your bus arrives. A lot of other useful features, such as fare calculator and live traffic disruptions.

A really useful, comprehensive Tube app which is also free if you can put up with some ads. It includes a very modern version of the iconic 1933 Harry Beck Underground map, as well as live info on the lines, departure boards and a station locator. You can even check your Oyster balance.

A free app which makes walking around London easy and informative. There are dozens of mapped-out walks in the app which all start and finish at a particular Underground station. While walking between stations you’ll get to see fascinating places of interest. A simple app to use, with lots of handy info and pictures.

If you’re coming out of the office and not sure whether your train home is running on time, this is a handy app to have on your smartphone. It quickly displays live real-time train times and platform information in a clean interface which allows users fast access to multiple favourite routes.
