A short film shot entirely on an iPod Touch by an amateur director from Woodford Green could win the grand prize as part of an international film festival.

Jonathan Chen, 26, of Madeira Grove, created a humorous video in September starring an angry blue bird in Claybury Park when he was looking for something to do with a university friend.

He then used software designed by a company which has worked on blockbuster movies like Iron Man 2 and the Harry Potter films to add a series of special effects.

The resulting short could now be chosen as the best film in the Original iPhone Film Festival, with the winner to be announced in San Francisco on January 26.

Mr Chen, a former multimedia student at the University of Kent, said: “Considering that we decided to do it as something to do on a free day, it’s pretty amazing how far we have come.

“I’d be chuffed to win it, it would be the icing on the cake.”

The film, called Clipped Wings, stars a soft toy version of one of the Angry Birds from the popular puzzle game app as it travels through the park.

He said: “We brainstormed to look for inspiration. The bird was in a corner of the room and had a peculiar face.

“With the resources we had we couldn’t pay actors so we wanted to use props.”

The film has been named in the top three of the fiction category, judged by industry experts.

The overall winner, decided by a public vote, will be named at the Macworld Expo with prizes including an iPad and film-making equipment.
