LONDON ’S FINEST
On Monday 18 th September the good and downright tasty from London’s
food sector gathered to celebrate diversity and excellence in the food and
drink industry. At the glitzy awards ceremony at the Brewery in Chiswell
Street, London, celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson dished out awards
to the best pubs, restaurants, fish & chip shops, cafes and nightclubs
from across the capital.
This was the second year for the Archant London Food & Drink Awards and this year they covered all London communities do the first time. Over 800 restaurants bars and clubs entered from almost all of the London Boroughs covered by Archant London’s 39 titles and more than 12,000 votes were cast.
There were regional finals which were by newspaper title coverage area and various categories were entered. There were 21 categories in total ranging from the Best Chinese to the Outstanding Waiter of the Year. Judging was based on individual votes which were sent by text. Customers voted for their best restaurant or bar simply by texting their unique code. The votes were collated and for each regional category the winner was the business that had the most text votes. The winners of the regional categories were then automatically entered into the overall London final and the winner of each overall category was simply the establishment that had received the most text votes in the regional event.
The winning restaurants in each category received certificates as well as the recognition of being the most popular in their category as voted for by the community in which they are based. The awards paid tribute to the hard work of restaurants and bars across the regions who aim to keep us, their customers satisfied with food and drink.
Archant London’s MD Enzo Testa said "This year's awards are our largest to date; over 800 restaurants entered which generated thousands of text votes. There were 21 different categories which reflects the diversity of the types of restaurants London has to offer. The success of this year's event ensures that our Food & Drink Awards are destined to be even bigger in the future."
