Neighbours have been left in shock after a 19-year-old became the first teenage victim of knife crime in London this year after being stabbed to death in a Marylebone flat.
The victim, named locally as Basel Muradi, died from a single stab wound yesterday afternoon after being found at Kimble House, just off the Lisson Grove Estate.
Police and paramedics arrived on the scene in Lilestone Street at 1.10pm yesterday but the teenager was pronounced dead on the just after 2pm despite medical treatment.
Two men - aged 19 and 35 – are being questioned by police at a central London police station after their arrests on suspicion of murder.
Neighbours said that the victim is understood to be graduate who was visiting friends at the flat for a birthday party.
An 81-year-old resident, who didn’t want to be named, said: “I have been here for nearly 20 years ago and it’s the first time anything like this has ever happened. Quite a lot of people live in the building and this has left everybody quite shocked.”
Another 51-year-old neighbour, who also wished to remain anonymous, added: “I left the flats at around 12.30 yesterday and I came back just over an hour later to see loads of police in the area and an ambulance arriving. It’s really upset the local community and it makes me quite scared as I live here.”
Det Ch Insp Matt Bonner, leading the investigation, said: “We are in the very early stages of our investigation and I would urge anyone who believes they may have information that could assist my officers to call us as soon as possible.
Police issued a section 60 order for the area to allow officers to carry out random stop and searches amid fears of reprisals.
A post mortem examination is scheduled for Westminster Mortuary this afternoon and next of kin have been informed.
