Menswear collections on show at London fashion event

The best of British menswear will be showcased from today at London Collections: Men in Covent Garden.
More than 60 of London biggest men’s brands and 30 designers will put their threads on show at the British Fashion Council event at the Hospital Club until Wednesday.
The event has been boosted by the decisions taken by Alexander McQueen and Tom Ford to move their main menswear collections from Milan to London this year.
Prime Minister David Cameron will host an event at Downing Street to open the display, starting a week which included a drinks reception hosted by Tommy Hilfiger and Esquire, a party by Ford, and a dinner laid on by British GQ.
Editor of British GQ, Dylan Jones, said: “London is the home of menswear, so it’s only natural that it has its own dedicated fashion week.
“London invented tailoring in Savile Row, it invented youth culture, and it continues to produce the best young designers in the world. Why would a menswear designer choose to show anywhere else?”
A second venue, at the Old Sorting Office, is also being used this year in an event supported by the Mayor of London’s office.
The tailors of Savile Row, along with London’s best shirt makers and hatters, will also present the modern face of British smart menswear to buyers and journalists in The English Gentleman.
Forty different outfits will be shown, spread through seven rooms inside Spencer House.
In addition, Fashion East’s Menswear Installations returned to host a line-up of emerging designer presentations and, for the second season, Meadham Kirchhoff’s menswear presentation.
