Scenes from the science fiction blockbuster, which features Hot Fuzz star Nick Frost, were filmed on the estate last year and dozens of locals were used as extras.

Newham Council’s film office organised a free screening at the Stratford Picturehouse last week to thank people for their patience and cooperation.

Ade Ogundokun, estate management administrator, said: “This is a great idea as it brings people together and gets residents involved. I hope everyone who came along really enjoys themselves.”

Newham Young Mayor Ali Mohammed attended the screening and introduced the film.

He said: “I’d like to thank everyone on the estate who showed patience while filming was underway – without your understanding this film would never have made it to the big screen.”

In addition to setting up the location shoots, the council also arranged a week’s work experience for six Newham teenagers with the film’s producers, Big Talk Pictures, as well as overseeing the involvement of the estate’s residents as extras in the film.
