It provides funding for talented young athletes in Bexley competing at national or international level in their sport.

Sarah-Louise Casey, 26, was one of 20 youngsters to benefit from the scheme last year.

She said: “Getting the grant enables me to go to training camp and replace kit. It also helps me get to major competitions across the country.”

The deadline for applications is August 31. Applicants have to be over 14 on September 1 and prove they live in Bexley borough.

Cllr Don Massey said: “London 2012 has made us focus on sport participation in Great Britain.

“Applying for Sporting Best could make all the different to a budding Olympian from Bexley.”
