Item returned to resident after Counter Terrorism Command concludes Arabic message on flag is innocent

A Kingsbury man has branded Brent Police ‘crazy’ after they confiscated a religious flag displayed outside his home in a terror swoop.

Jamshad Khan, who lives in Lavender Avenue, claims police bullishly banged on his front door before marching into his house and demanding he hand over the flag or face arrest.

The flag, which says ‘There is no worthier worship besides Allah and Mohammed is the messenger’ in Arabic, was sent off to be examined by the Counter Terrorism Command.

It was returned to him three days later when the words were deemed harmless.

Mr Khan said: “It was crazy, to actually think that this incites terrorism is totally bizarre.

“I was born and bred in this country and am accepting of all religions, I showed them online what it meant but they still wanted to take it away.”

He added: “The fact you can be threatened with arrest just for displaying a flag is ludicrous.

“Surely there are more serious issues to worry about?”

A spokesman for Brent Police said residents had raised concerns about a flag displaying a ‘proscribed organisation’ and that Mr Khan had voluntarily handed the flag over.
