Former mayor claims contents of political newsletter should not be believed

The borough’s Liberal Democrat group has been accused by a former mayor of ‘pushing lies’ through letterboxes in Wembley.

Len Snow, Labour mayor of Brent from 1976 to 1977, has told the Times the newsletter, which claims the Lib Dems have secured £100million for Brent’s schools, should not be believed.

He said: “To be claiming to residents that they somehow raised and funded all this money is crazy. I understand the need to make local residents aware of local issues but this is an outright lie.”

The newsletter also claims they have secured nearly £35m to rebuild Copland and Alperton schools and £80m for primary places.

Cllr Paul Lorber, leader of Brent’s Lib Dems, said: “Labour previously sent out a newsletter with details of how they were going to use money on schools but that money never came.”
