It came from Lewisham and is making its way through the town centre before moving to Penge and Crystal Palace.

Olympic sprint athlete Marlon Devonish MBE is due to light the flame in Crystal Palace Park at around 11.30am.

Lindsay Birrell, 76, and Jenny Dunn both of Bickley, were waiting in Bromley town centre for the torch to pass through.

Lindsay said: “We are very keen Olympic fans, we’re both games makers.

“We’re going to meet the Australian squad in Westfield on Thursday, we have been invited especially. I was a games maker in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne. I played cricket for a Melbourne team and was asked to help out.”

Jenny added: “I’ll be working in the stadium, showing people to their seat. It’s something we’re very keen about and I hope I’ll be able to catch some of the events while I’m working too.”
