Last year there were fires blazing, young men throwing bricks at the police and a community in turmoil.

This year, Olympic athletes staying at Tottenham Hale walked to the Tube and the heat was generated by the warm glow of Jess Ennis and co.

We have our own medal for Nicola Adams, who boxes for Team GB and Haringey Police Community Club.

Things have improved. Spurs have pledged to stay in Tottenham, the Carpetright building is going up again and the post office and Aldi have re-opened.

Haringey police have reduced their stop and searches in Tottenham. Volunteers, community groups and charities have all done their bit.

Last week, the council launched the Plan for Tottenham, focusing on the investment and businesses we need to bring jobs to the area.

But problems remain. We need the huge investment that has transformed Stratford. Tensions between the police and some young people have not gone away. Unemployment has continued to rise.

We must keep banging the drum for Tottenham until, when it appears in the news, we dont fear the worst, but expect the best.
