Officers were called to Barking Road at the junction with Ron Leighton Way at 11.56pm where they found a man with a serious stab wound.

The Barking Road was closed for some time, but partially re-opened at around 5am today, with some restrictions between the junctions of Aintree Avenue and Hartley Avenue.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Officers found a man in his early 20s. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where his condition is said to be critical.”

He said it appears the incident happened during a dispute between two groups of youths. Eight people were arrested by police and are in custody.
