Campaigners against missiles in Bow during the London Olympics step up their protest

10:12 11 May 2012

Campaigners against missiles being placed on top of a residential building in Bow will hand out leaflets at an East End market ahead of a public meeting.

It comes after the Ministry of Defence announced plans to put missiles on top of the water tower at Bow Quarter an Fairfield Road during the London Olympics this summer.

Campaigners, including journalist Brian Whelan who lives at the former Bryant and May matchstick factory, held a second meeting at St Paul’s Church, in St Stephen’s Road, Bow, on Wednesday (May 9) to discuss how to move their campaign forward.

A public meeting is planned for May 24 to which Ministry of Defence officials will be invited along with local MPs and council representatives.

The campaigners plan to distribute leaflets at Roman Road Market this Saturday and outside Bow Quarter.

Lawyers representing the campaigners are also pressing ahead with legal challenge against the missile plans.
