A police officer was hospitalised whilst out on patrol after chemicals were sprayed in his face by a man on a moped in Battersea.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Service said: “Shortly after 3pm on Tuesday, August 20, a male uniformed officer on duty in York Place, stopped a male on a moped who subsequently sprayed a substance in the officer’s face.”
He said the officer, from the Met’s Safer Transport Command, was taken to a central London hospital for treatment to his injuries.
He has since been discharged from hospital.
The spokesman said the suspect fled the scene near to the River Thames in Battersea on a silver moped.
He said enquiries are continuing and the substance sprayed in the officer’s face is not known at this time.
