A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Service said there are more than 6,000 officers working at the Bank Holiday Weekend event, which is Europe’s biggest street festival,
He said police had held people for a variety of offences at the carnival, which attracts more than a million people to London every year.
As of 5.30pm there had been one arrest for an assault on a police officer, three public order offences, three for an offensive weapon, 16 for drugs, one theft-related offence, one for robbery, one for assault, and seven classed at others, which the Met said included one person held for drink driving.
There will be almost 7,000 officers at the event tomorrow, which last year saw a total of 278 arrests across both days.
