A counter-terrorism officer accused of passing information to the News of the World has denied misconduct in a public office.
DCI April Casburn, 53, is charged with offering the now-closed tabloid information about Operation Varec, an investigation into whether the inquiry into phone hacking should be reopened.
She appeared at the Old Bailey today dressed in red for a short hearing. She entered a not guilty plea to one count of misconduct in a public office.
The date for Casburn’s trial will be fixed in the future.
She is also facing a separate charge under the Official Secrets Act that can only be dealt with by magistrates.
It is alleged that she had secret documents at her home without permission to keep them there.
Casburn, who is currently suspended from work, was released on unconditional bail until her next court appearance.
