Former News of the World editor Rebekah Brooks attended a south London police station today to hear she faces trial in the phone hacking scandal.
Mrs Brooks arrived at Lewisham police station without her husband and wearing a sober black trouser suit.
Elsewhere, her husband Charlie Brooks – who also faces charges, attended Hammersmith police station.
Meanwhile, Mrs Brooks’s former PA Cheryl Carter is suffering the most “unhappy period of her life” as she faces charges of perverting the course of justice.
Henri Brandman, said his client “vigorously denies” the allegation that she removed boxes with Mrs Brooks from News International.
“Cheryl Carter understands that she is to be charged today with attempting to pervert the course of justice,” he said.
“She vigorously denies the commission of that or any offence.
“She would like to thank her family and friends for their continued support during this most unhappy period of her life.
“Neither she, nor I, will be making any further comment at this stage.”
