Border Force officials at Heathrow Airport found two kilos of heroin sewn into the hems of a traditional Pakistani bridal gown.

It was flown into Terminal 3 from Karachi last Sunday.

Damon Jackman, Border Force Heathrow deputy director, hailed the “highly unusual” find.

He said: “Border Force officers are on constant alert to keep heroin and other banned substances out of the UK.

“Drug trafficking is a serious offence and those convicted face long prison sentences.

“This seizure was highly unusual and shows the lengths smugglers will go to.”

Mohammed Khalil Bhatti, 33, a Pakistani national, appeared before magistrates on Tuesday in Uxbridge. He faces importation charges.

A 30-year-old man from Luton was arrested and bailed in connection with the police inquiry.
