A Crayford ambulance worker is walking 169km in honour of her grandson who died when he was five months old.

Tina Mansell, 57, is taking on the challenge with her 43-year-old colleague Andy Breeden and they will walk from Newbridge in Wales to Hampton Court over the course of four days starting on August 12.

Her grandson Archie King-Lodge was born on September 7 last year, nine weeks premature and with organs on the outside of his body and unable to breathe without a ventilator.

They hope to raise £5,000 and the money will be donated to The Heath University of Wales Hospital, who cared for him.

Mrs Mansell, of Mill Place, Crayford, said: “When Archie died I was absolutely devastated. My team mate asked me if I wanted to do something to make myself feel helpful.

“The staff at the hospital were brilliant and really helped him in the short time he was with us.

“It’s going to be hard going and a little bit scary, but with Archie in mind it will get us through.”
