21-year-old convicted of violent disorder following Kelvin Chibueze killing to walk free

A deaf-mute who launched a bottle during a chase which led to the death of 17-year-old Kelvin Chibueze is set to walk free immediately after being handed a two-year sentence today.

Ibrahim Zakari, 21, of St Margaret’s, Barking, was cleared at the Old Bailey of the murder of the teenager today but was convicted of violent disorder.

He has already served 371 days on remand and under English law prisoners are usually released after serving half their sentences in custody.

Four men - Dale Williams, 21, of Harts Lane, Barking; Lerone Boye, 25, of Henley Road, Ilford; Hugo Nwankwo, 18, of Halbutt Street, Dagenham, and Roger Damali, 31, of Maculey Road, East Ham - were convicted of Kelvin’s murder today after he was repeatedly stabbed following a chase in High Road, Ilford, last August.

Judge Bevan said Zakari’s learning difficulties meant “justice can be met” by the two-year term.

He said: “You can consider yourself fortunate.”

The other defendants will be sentenced on December 20.
